Powerlifting involves the lifting of the maximum possible weight and consists of three exercises: Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. Powerlifting comes from Olympic weightlifting and became internationally known in the 1970s.
Powerlifting differs from weightlifting in that with traditional weightlifting, the barbell is lifted from the floor above the head. In Powerlifting, movements are shorter and weights are heavier. For optimal success in the exercise, it is extremely important to use excellent technique with good muscle strength and speed of execution.
TYPES
Powerlifting is divided into two categories: Powerlifting Equipped (also called “gear”) involves elastic tools such as knee straps, bodices and bench tops, which resist movement load-induced, allowing a greater weight lifting. They also help preserve joint health. The second category is Powerlifting Classic (RAW) and only requires belts, knee pads and cuffs to support the joints during the activity. In this case the lifting weight is entirely dependent on the athlete’s muscle strength. East Side Gym focuses more on Powerlifting Classics because anyone can train this way.
THE BENEFITS OF POWERLIFTING
The benefits of intense Powerlifting improve the entire muscular and body structure. This is why this activity is also practiced by athletes in other sports. We guarantee that this discipline is an excellent complement to other activities, as it allows an athele to develope tone and explosiveness.
